Lecterns for Council Chambers and Government Venues: A Buyer's Checklist
A procurement checklist for lecterns in council chambers and government venues: function, compliance documents, lead times and how to buy.

In a council chamber or government venue, the lectern isn't decoration. It's where the mayor opens the meeting, where a minister makes an announcement, and where a public servant presents to a committee on the record. It needs to work every time, look appropriately formal, and be easy to justify in a procurement file.
Lectrum lecterns are trusted by universities, conference venues, government institutions and corporate event spaces across Australia. Here's a checklist for government buyers.
What government lecterns need to do
Most government venues need a lectern that:
- Looks formal and neutral, often in black
- Delivers clear audio to the room and to recording or broadcast systems
- Supports AV control where the room has a control system
- Keeps time for structured agendas
- Moves between rooms or into storage when needed
The functional checklist
Audio. Choose an electronics model with two XLR microphone inputs, compatible with standard XLR gooseneck microphones. If condenser microphones are used, check phantom power. The L900's universal 12V supply supports it, and a phantom power supply is available for the Classic.
Lighting. An LED gooseneck reading light helps in dimmed rooms and under broadcast lighting.
Control. The L20S NCTL Classic Control and L2001 CTL Aero Control have a cut-out for a control touch panel, available for AMX and Crestron.
Time. The L101 Classic Clock and L2001C Aero Timer have a programmable LCD clock and countdown timer.
Two speakers. The L900 is extra wide at 954 mm, for two presenters or extra equipment.
Mobility. Lockable castors are optional. A padded protective cover helps between uses.
Branding. Crests and logos can be added with dress-panel logo options. Check your organisation's rules on crest use first.
The procurement checklist
Procurement files need more than a product name. Ask for:
- A configured specification and quote. The OPIE configurator produces a priced specification and a PDF quote you can attach to your approval pack.
- Quality certification. Lectrum products are made under ISO 9001:2015.
- Country of origin. Lectrum lecterns are designed and manufactured in Australia, at OPIE Manufacturing Group's facility in Western Sydney.
- Lead time. Lead times vary by model, finish and quantity. Confirm current production and delivery timing with the Lectrum team before ordering.
- Warranty terms. Ask for the current manufacturer's warranty statement.
- Supply channel. Buy direct, or through an authorised distributor if your organisation uses an AV panel supplier.
- Terms of sale. Review the terms of sale for quotes, delivery and returns.
How to buy a Lectrum
- Choose the model, or use the Product Finder on lectrum.com.au.
- Configure it in the OPIE configurator and export the PDF quote.
- Get internal approval.
- Order direct (02 4728 6111, sales@lectrum.com.au) or through your distributor.
- Allow the lead time, plus any end-of-year shutdown.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Specifying the lectern after the AV. If the room has a control system, choose a CTL or NCTL model with the AV package so the cut-out matches the panel.
- Forgetting the floor box. Agree the lectern position with the electrical contractor before the floor is finished.
- Leaving branding to the last week. Crest and logo panels need artwork approval, so allow time.
- Ignoring storage. If the chamber is shared, plan where the lectern lives between meetings, and add castors and a cover.
